Patreon video link protection: scope and limits

Protecting a creator’s work starts with clear access boundaries. RedShoreMedia can help restrict reuse of its links, while the original host controls access to the media bytes.

What link protection does

The workspace offers Patreon link protection against specified untrusted video-page openings. It is designed to preserve supported Patreon/Embedly use while restricting unwanted reuse of RedShoreMedia links. Test normal supporter journeys before relying on any restriction.

What it does not prove

Link protection is not DRM, does not independently verify paid Patreon membership and cannot prevent screen recording. Referrer information is not a reliable identity or payment credential. A person who can legitimately play a public source may discover its URL.

Protect the source separately

If your original MP4 or HLS resources are publicly reachable, wrapping them in a player does not revoke direct access. Your host can provide appropriate time-limited signed URLs, resource access controls or other protection. Such controls must still work with the browser/player and every HLS segment/key.

Balance protection and access

Overly strict host restrictions can also block legitimate mobile supporters. Test the Patreon app, normal browsers and seeking. Keep token validity long enough for the viewing session and arrange renewal on the source side when required.

Respond to a suspected copy

Keep the original publication and offending URLs, report the issue to the relevant site or host and contact support with the RedShoreMedia URL. Do not send account passwords, API tokens or unlawful media as evidence. Reports about our service are handled under the content and copyright policies.
